Liverpool chippy serving the best spring rolls in the city

When it comes to takeaways in Liverpool we're pretty much spoilt for choice, aren't we?

No matter what you want, there's a place which caters just for that.

This week, as usual, the craving for salt and pepper chicken and spring rolls reared its head, something only a trip to a local chippy would solve.

Luckily in Liverpool you're never far from some salt and pepper chicken, so we took a trip to Dingle chip shop Chiu's on Park Road.

What we ordered

If there's salt and pepper chicken on the menu, then that's what we're eating.

We ordered the basics, including salt and pepper chicken, fried rice, a portion of chips, barbecue sauce and spring rolls, before spotting a game changer on the menu.

Chiu's Fish and Chips has an extensive menu, but it turns out the chippy has a secret weapon: salt and pepper spring rolls.

How could we say no?

Once we added two drinks the whole order came to £18.40.

What it was like

With the restaurant being less than 10 minutes away, we were hopeful the delivery would be quick, but after waiting an hour for the food to arrive we had almost accepted our fate.

The food arrived lukewarm but edible, though the chips were gloriously greasy (as they should be) and the portions were large.

Despite the greasy goodness of the chips, the lukewarm temperature was off putting, while the fried rice was bland and sticky.

The highly-anticipated salt and pepper chicken fell flat, despite its spicy flavour the chicken was tough and chewy, so much so that the majority was thrown in the bin.

The saving grace of the night came in the form of Chiu's spring rolls.

The plain spring rolls went great with the (somewhat watery) barbecue sauce, but Chiu's salt and pepper spring rolls were undoubtedly the best part of what was an otherwise mediocre meal.

Kept separate from their sauce and vegetables during delivery, the salt and pepper spring rolls were the only item to arrive still hot, which no doubt made a huge difference in itself.

When mixed with a variety of peppers and onions the fried treats were delightful and could possibly be the best spring rolls in the city.

In fact, the spring rolls from Chiu's have their very own Facebook group dedicated to how “quality” they are.
