Liverpool chippy serving the best chips and curry sauce in the city

At this time of year it’s a comfort food that delivers like no other and we may have found the best place in Liverpool to go for chips and curry sauce.

Yanni’s Traditional Fish & Chips in the city centre has a loyal following of customers and a recent lunchtime visit confirmed why.

I visited the Lord Street chippy at 12.30pm on Thursday to find a queue of customers waiting to order.

Inside there are several tables and chairs, most of which were full and the remainder of which were spotlessly clean.

Having never been before it was a positive sign of things to come.

The chippy clearly has made a good impression on customers, with well over 100 ‘excellent’ reviews on Tripadvisor and an overall rating of 4.5. A recent reviewer even described it as the ‘Best Fish and Chips in Liverpool’ after a visit three weeks ago.

But it was the chips and curry sauce I was so interested in trying, having been told by some that I wouldn’t find a better alternative in the city.

I’m a fan of the chip shop favourite, but can’t say I’ve ever had a portion that I’d describe as particularly outstanding. It always tastes about the same to me.

However, having ordered my £2.80 portion and headed back to my desk to tuck in, I can see why the Yanni’s version gets such rave reviews.

The chips were proper chip shop chips, and were still nice and hot despite the 10 minute walk back to Echo office. But it was the curry sauce that really took me by surprise. It was thick and full of flavour and spice - so much so, I needed regular sips of water throughout to cool my tastebuds down. I’ve never had a chip shop curry sauce so full of heat.

Yanni’s do all the usual chip shop favourites too, along with a selection of burgers and doner kebabs. But if you want a quick fix, I’d definitely recommend the chips and curry sauce - just make sure you’ve got a cold drink to hand.
