Liverpool 'charmed' by transfer replacement ahead of potential £20m summer exit

Liverpool now know what it would cost to bring Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to Anfield next season.

The Reds clearly have no intention of replacing regular number one Alisson Becker following another outstanding season but could still need to strengthen their back-up options this summer.

That's because reserve stopper Caoimhin Kelleher may seek regular first-team football elswhere - with Liverpool likely to demand a few upwards of £20m - and third-choice Adrian is out of the contract at the end of the season.

In pursuit of a potential replacement, Belgian outlet HLN has reported that Liverpool are set to battle for 20-year-old Verbruggen's signature with arch-rivals Manchester United even though Anderlecht turned down an offer from Burnley last summer.

The report says that Jurgen Klopp has been 'charmed' by the young 'keeper who is currently under contract until 2025, but now knows what sort of fee would be required to capture his man.

According to Voetbal Nieuws (via Sport Witness), the Reds will need to deliver 'a sum in double figures' to pull Verbruggen away from the Jupiler Pro League. Although Anderlecht would like to keep their 6ft 3" goalie, an offer of €13million (£11million) would represent a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper from the Belgian league.

That would likely be sufficient to complete a deal, with Anderlecht mindful that ‘lucrative offers’ aren't something that they can pass up, especially from the Premier League.
