Liverpool Champions League plans changed again as FC Midtjylland venue confirmed

Liverpool will face FC Midtjylland in Denmark next month after the UK authorities relaxed travel restrictions for elite athletes.

Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park had been earmarked as a possible location for the match should Liverpool be unable to travel to Denmark.

But that is no longer necessary as a quarantine period for elite athletes is no longer required, meaning Jurgen Klopp is denied a return visit to his former club.

Liverpool will progress to the last-16 should they draw or win against Ajax on Tuesday night at Anfield.

However, the game in Denmark could still have something riding on it even then if the Reds do not tie up first place in their Champions League group.

Liverpool are currently top of Group D on nine points from four matches, while Ajax and Atalanta are both on seven points.

FC Midtjylland are bottom of the group having lost all four games to date, scoring only twice in that period.

Borussia Dortmund had confirmed yesterday via their website that they expected to host the game.

It was always understood that there was still time for an exemption to be made by the authorities for Liverpool, as elite athletes, to be allowed to travel, as has proven to be the case, with travel restrictions relaxed and no quarantine period now required.
