Liverpool Champions League group facing potential chaos after positive coronavirus tests

Liverpoool''s Champions League group has been thrown into potential disarray after 11 Ajax players reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.

The Dutch side have taken a squad of only 17 players for their game in Denmark against FC Midtjylland on Tuesday evening.

Among those not to have travelled are midfielder Davy Klaassen, winger Dusan Tadic and goalkeepers Andre Onana and Maarten Stekelenburg.

And reports in Holland have suggested the absentee list is due to a coronavirus outbreak at the club.

Ajax are said to have contacted UEFA asking for permission to fly players to the game hours before the game should results of their second tests prove negative.

Regulations state visiting teams must be in the country in which they are playing at least a day before the game.

Ajax drew 2-2 at Atalanta last week, with the game behind held in Bergamo which was badly hit by coronavirus during the first wave of the pandemic back in March.

Liverpool travelled to Italy on Monday afternoon ahead of their match against the Serie A side on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp's side have taken maximum points from their two games thus far - including a 1-0 win at Ajax - and are two points ahead of Atalanta in the early standings.
