Liverpool Champions League draw: Jurgen Klopp's side to face Bayern Munich

Jurgen Klopp will return to Germany in 2019 after Liverpool were drawn against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16.

The first leg will be played at Anfield on either February 19, with the return leg set for the Allianz Arena on March 13.

Liverpool qualified for the round of 16 as runners-up in Group C, beating Napoli 1-0 in the final round of matches to secure second while Paris Saint-Germain advanced in top spot.

Klopp’s men are enjoying a sensational Premier League campaign, unbeaten after 17 matches and one point clear of champions Manchester City at the top of the table.

Bayern are enduring a rather more difficult season; they are third in the Bundesliga after 15 matches and trail the unbeaten Borussia Dortmund by nine points.

The agonising memory of last season’s Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid has not quite faded, though, and Liverpool are determined to go one better this time around.

Liverpool qualified for the knockout stage as winners of their Champions League group last season, before breezing past Portuguese giants Porto with a 5-0 aggregate victory in the round of 16.
