Liverpool chairman Tom Werner makes Premier League vow and hints at what's next for Jurgen Klopp

Chairman Tom Werner insists Liverpool's title race heartbreak will provide added motivation for them to go one better next term as he vowed: “We're only going to get stronger.”

The Fenway Sports Group executive saluted the work of manager Jurgen Klopp after the Reds were pipped to the Premier League crown by Manchester City.

A Liverpool verdict - No tears and no regrets as Anfield's response speaks volumes about Jurgen Klopp's Reds on the final day at Anfield was in vain as City's 4-1 triumph at Brighton ensured that Pep Guardiola's side retained the title by a single point.

Werner reflected on a campaign of immense progress which saw Liverpool collect 97 points and suffer just one league defeat.

“It was a magical season,” Werner said.

“Obviously we’re disappointed that we didn’t win the league but it was a remarkable season and the squad is exciting.

“I think that we’ve made a lot of friends around the world and I think we’ve done well by our supporters. I can’t say enough about Jurgen and all the talent on the field.

“We’re only going to get stronger. Ninety seven points, it’s a remarkable year.

"We obviously didn’t win the league but we’ll be back next year and we’ve got a lot of motivation to win the league next year. I’m excited.”

Werner also paid tribute to the club's supporters who responded with a deafening show of defiance shortly after the final whistle at Anfield on Sunday.

That strong bond between the dressing room and the fanbase has been crucial in inspiring Klopp's men to new heights.

Last week's stunning fightback against Barcelona was the perfect example of that and Werner is now eyeing a triumphant finale to the season when Liverpool face Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid on June 1.

“The support was extraordinary,” he added.

“As Jurgen said, between the support on Tuesday and the way the team played on Tuesday, that was one of the great matches at Anfield. I look forward to a great match in Madrid.”
