Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson wants no credit for organising NHS fund

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has reportedly been organising a way for Premier League players to help financially support the NHS.

According to The Times, the midfielder has been reaching out to the 19 other captains in England's top flight in order to pitch the idea of a coronavirus crisis fund.

This idea which is thought to have been devised by Henderson is said to have come ahead of government minister Matt Hancock's controversial comments on Thursday.

The health secretary had singled out footballers as he told the press: "Given the sacrifices many people are making, the first thing Premier League footballers can do is make a contribution."

In the report it has been suggested the fund would be open for public donations also but the majority of the money raised would come via Premier League players - with banks thought to be on stand-by.

The fund could run into millions of pounds, with the prospect of up to 20 Premier League footballs contributing.

It goes on to state Henderson does not want to be credited for the idea, and instead just focused on helping those on the frontline leading the fight against COVID-19.
