Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson's incredible acts of generosity rewarded

While he might currently be sidelined through injury and unable to lead Liverpool to a potential top four finish, Reds captain Jordan Henderson remains as influential as ever off the pitch.

The 30-year-old played a key role in English football’s rejection of the European Super League, calling together an emergency meeting of top-flight captains, while he was also a leading voice in the social media blackout last month in a show of solidarity against racism and online abuse.

The England international also became the first official NHS Charities Together Champion back in January, having helped set up the Premier League coronavirus fund for the NHS last year in the early months of the global pandemic following another meeting with his fellow captains.

And it is that movement which has seen Henderson finish sixth in the latest Sunday Times Giving List.

The Liverpool captain helped raise £4m for the NHS through the #PlayersTogether coronavirus appeal, with that figure equal to 16% of his estimated £25m value.

Meanwhile, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford topped the Sunday Times Giving List after helping raise £20m in donations after launching a high-profile campaign to get children eligible for free school meals fed regularly when schools were shut during lockdown.

The Giving List details the top 20 individuals and families who have donated the largest proportion of their wealth, as part of The Sunday Times Rich List .
