Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has promised to join Phil Foden in dyeing his hair blonde if England become Euro 2020 champions.
The Three Lions take on Italy in tonight’s final aiming to end a 55-year trophyless spell that stretches back to the 1966 World Cup triumph.
Manchester City playmaker Foden bleached his hair blonde before the Euros in a nod to Paul Gascoigne’s infamous look at Euro 96.
England were only able to reach the semi-final stage then, with Gareth Southgate missing the decisive spot-kick in a penalty shootout defeat to Germany.
The current crop of players, led by Southgate as manager, have already gone one better but a tournament victory would firmly seal their place in history.
Foden claimed earlier this week that his England colleagues had all promised to go blonde if they beat Italy and Henderson has assured his teammate that he will follow suit.
“Apparently, yes, (we are all supposed to dye our hair),” Henderson told ITV. “To be honest, I wouldn’t mind doing that.
“If we won on Sunday then I would do anything you wanted. So, to dye my hair is the least of my worries.”
Henderson has not started at the tournament for England but scored his first international goal in the quarter-final win against Ukraine and has been a major influence off the pitch.
Southgate said: “We’ve known that in any situation we’d be happy to put any of them on the field. We’ve put some really young players into matches that had a high profile, potentially with quite a lot of pressure and tension. They’ve all dealt with that really well.
“We’ve had some senior players coming back from injury who have contributed really importantly as well. This effort has been about the whole squad and that will continue into tomorrow (Sunday).”
