Jordan Henderson has shared his delight at finally scoring his first goal for England.
The Liverpool captain headed home his first goal for his country in their Euro 2020 quarter-final victory over Ukraine as they ran out 4-0 winners to set up a semi-final clash with Denmark at Wembley.
Having missed a penalty on the eve of the tournament before seeing an effort disallowed against Czech Republic in the Three Lions' final group game, the midfielder finally managed to break his duck on his 62nd international appearance as he connected with Mason Mount's corner.
And the 31-year-old shared his relief at finally getting off the mark for England when speaking to BBC Sport after the game.
"Yeah, it’s about time, to be honest. It’s been a long time coming, I suppose," he admitted. "I have felt one coming but thankfully I’ve managed to get on the scoresheet.
"Overall, I’m delighted for the lads because they deserve it. The performance they put in tonight was fantastic. It gives us good momentum going into the next game.
"I always felt it would come eventually. I always try to contribute the best I can on the pitch, I never really think about scoring goals.
"There’s a lot of other players to do that, I need to concentrate on my job on the pitch, what I need to do and what the coaching staff and the players need me to do.
"Of course I’d have liked to score more goals over the last few years but I cannot complain."
And with England now set for their second-successive semi-final, Henderson is determined to help take England to the Euro 2020 final as he looks to build on his Premier League and Champions League success with Liverpool.
"We’ve always felt we’re continuing to grow and improve as a team, and that’s important, but I feel as though we’re ready now to take the next step," he said. "
"It will be a really tough test against Denmark - they’re a very good side, we played against them not so long ago, we’ve seen a lot of the games and they’re a good side.
"We need to be at our very best to get to the final but hopefully we can get a good result."
