Liverpool can continue unique opening day habit against Norwich

When Liverpool get their Premier League campaign underway on August 14, they will be looking to maintain an impressive scoring run.

Jurgen Klopp's side face Norwich City on the opening day of the season and will be keen to get off to a strong start ahead of what's set to be a competitive campaign.

The Reds have won their previous three opening day fixtures against Leeds United, Norwich and West Ham United, collecting three points in style on each occasion.

Liverpool have made a habit of getting off to a good start to the season under Klopp, scoring plenty of goals in the process.

Indeed, the Reds have scored three or more goals in their first league game in each of the last five campaigns.

This unique run began away at Arsenal during the 2016/17 season as the Reds secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Gunners.

A Philippe Coutinho double and further strikes from Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane marked a memorable day at the Emirates Stadium, sparking scenes of jubilation in the away end.

The following season saw the Reds earn a share of the spoils in an equally dramatic 3-3 draw at Watford.

Mohamed Salah scored a debut goal for the club, meanwhile Roberto Firmino and Mane were also on target.

There was late frustration as Watford defender Miguel Britos bundled over the line in stoppage-time to deny the Reds all three points.

West Ham were the next side to be punished by Liverpool's free-scoring forwards, with Salah, Mane (2) and Daniel Sturridge all getting in on the act at Anfield.

The Hammers had no reply to the Reds' attacking play and were comprehensively beaten.

Another four goals were dished out by Klopp's side in the first fixture of the club's 2019/20 title-winning season.

Newly-promoted Norwich gave the Reds an early lead through a Grant Hanley own goal, though Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi helped Liverpool to a 4-1 win.

Leeds United suffered a similar fate last term as Liverpool again displayed their ruthless streak in the final third.

A Salah hat-trick and Van Dijk header was just about enough to defeat Marcelo Bielsa's side, who scored three goals of their own to pile the pressure on the Reds.
