One of Liverpool’s ‘hidden gems’ is closing for good after an “amazing” five years in business.
Tiny Rick’s cereal cafe, which is hidden among a small row of shop fronts on Smithdown Road , has announced its closure.
The cafe is a haven for cereal and board game enthusiasts, offering a huge range of weird and wonderful cereals from around the world and more than 300 games for customers to choose from.

Tiny Rick’s owners Cliff and Poppy said they had reached “a stage where we can no longer sustain the cafe working together” following health issues.
The cafe is due to close at the end of November after an “amazing five years”, with the team adding that they’ll miss “the smiles and wonder on peoples faces when they walked through the door”.
In a message to fans, they wrote: “ANNOUNCEMENT Five years ago when we decided to open Tiny Ricks Cafe. We did so because not only did we have a passion for our idea, for board games and for cereal but also we had a passion for each other.
“We’re not just a couple, we’re also best friends and sadly due to Poppys health issues we’ve reached a stage where we can no longer sustain the cafe working together.
“We thought a lot about hiring people to run the cafe or running it with just one of us and other staff but the truth is we didn’t want to continue if we couldn’t do it together. It’s therefore with huge sadness that we’ll be officially closing Tiny Ricks Cafe at the end of November for good.
“We’ve had an amazing five years and met some wonderful people (many of whom are now close friends) but the time has come for us to move on to new challenges in our lives.
“We’ll miss the crazy bedlam, the fun of running around getting the orders in but MOST of all we’ll miss the smiles and wonder on peoples faces when they walked through the door for the first time and saw our shelves and we’ll miss the noise of families and friends sitting together and just filling the cafe with laughter as they played together.
“Please keep following our social media as we’re not only keeping it as an archive to look back on our cafe but we’ll also, moving forward, be looking to pivot to reviews and other content to keep the dream alive.
“Thanks to everyone who’s supported us and come along over the last five years. We hope you had even half the fun we had. All our love Cliff & Poppy xx”.
According to the post, Poppy and Cliff intend to move to reviewing different cereals to “keep the dream alive”, asking fans to continue to support the cafe’s social media pages.
Beneath the post, customers were quick to comment on the post expressing their sadness at the decision and share their memories.
One person said: “Oh, I’m so sad to hear this...I finally managed to make it for a visit over the summer with my boys, and they loved it so much, they still talk about it often! Huge good luck for whatever the future brings xxx”.
A second wrote: “Oh how awful to say goodbye to something you both love but needs must. Wishing you all the best for future endeavours xxx”.
Another added: “This cafe is a wonderful place to spend time. It’ll be sorely missed! I wish you guys the best, and hope for a speedy recovery!”
Tiny Rick’s will close for good at the end of November.
