A Liverpool café that raises money for homeless people has urged people to show their support today after heavy snowfall across the city.
Paper Cup Coffee Shop, which offers support for people who have experienced homelessness shared an urgent plea on social media for people to ‘pay it forward’. People can visit the Queen Square café and pay for a drink, which can then be received free of charge by someone sleeping rough.
Last night, temperatures plummeted to sub zero temperatures in Liverpool city centre and people woke up this morning to thick snowfall across Merseyside. While the snow didn’t settle in the city yesterday, this morning there was a blanket covering across areas including St George’s Plateau and at the Pier Head.

Posting on Twitter, Paper Cup Coffee Shop told its 5k followers: “On days like today your support is needed more than ever - one of our regulars is asleep in the snow. He will be in when he wakes up for food and a hot drink. Please pay forward if you can, it’s baltic out there.”
Yesterday, homeless and housing charity The Whitechapel Centre were encouraging people sleeping rough to take up offers of emergency accommodation. The charity posted: “Just a reminder that our outreach team is out 24 hours, encouraging anyone sleeping rough to come indoors & access emergency accommodation. Call anytime 0300 123 204”. Paper Cup Coffee Shop is open from 8am to 3pm Monday to Friday an 9am to 3pm on Saturdays.
