Chelsea and Frank Lampard handed massive injury boost ahead of Liverpool UEFA Super Cup clash

Liverpool have been handed a massive injury blow ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash against Chelsea.

The Blues will be hoping to right the wrong of the 4-0 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford when they take on Jurgen Klopp's side in Istanbul.

And their job could be a fair bit easier with the news of Allsson Becker's calf injury.

The Liverpool stopper was forced off in the first half of their 4-1 Premier League victory over Norwich City on Friday night, and the club have confirmed that the Brazilian will be out for 'a few weeks'.

Speaking to the Liverpool club website, Klopp said: "[It’s] Not too cool.

"It’s a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while.

"I don’t want to make now [an] exact prognosis on when he will be back but it will not be Wednesday for sure, so now then we have to see.

"It takes a while, it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see.

"I saw already like ‘six weeks’ and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks."

If that timescale is correct, it means that the goalkeeper could also miss Liverpool's clash with Arsenal in August 24.

As a result, ex-West Ham United keeper Adrian is likely to be in between the sticks for the game against the Blues as well as the Gunners.

Interestingly, the last time the Spaniard faced Chelsea he kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win for the Hammers in the 2017/18 Premier League season.
