Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp urges referees to speed up VAR after controversial win over Wolves

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has urged Premier League referees to start using pitchside monitors to speed up the VAR process, after two lengthy delays in his side’s win over Wolves at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds were the beneficiaries of both decisions, first when Sadio Mane’s opener was allowed to stand and then when a would-be equaliser for Wolves was ruled out for offside.

Mane’s goal was in question because referee Anthony Taylor felt Adam Lallana had handled in the warm-up, and though TV replays quickly showed the ball had struck his shoulder, it still took several minutes for the goal to be given.

Wolves’ effort in first-half stoppage time also took a long while to chalk off as VAR ruled on the tightest of offside rules, and though they ultimately worked in his favour, Klopp was not happy with the way the decisions were made.

"We are in December and coming into January,” he told Sky. “Players standing around that long waiting is not good. I would prefer if referees going to the screen.

"I think the first situation it would help. But if you think offside, then it takes a while. But with the possible handball it could be quicker. That's how we do it England at the moment. We were on the other side of VAR decisions at Aston Villa. These things happen, nobody likes it."
