Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp takes swipe at Manchester City after Jack Grealish's £100m transfer

It seems Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has taken a swipe at Manchester City's spending in the transfer window.

Although the Blues have only signed one player this summer, they broke the British transfer record when striking a deal to sign Jack Grealish for £100m and their interest in Tottenham's Harry Kane, who would command a substantial fee, has been well documented.

Pep Guardiola's side aren't the only team in the Premier League that have invested in their squad, though, with Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku for a club-record fee of £97.5m and rivals Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, for example.

However, in a recent interview in Germany, Klopp was asked about the activity of just City and Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer market, which led him to inadvertently take a swipe at the Premier League champions.

“You can only play with eleven," Klopp said to Bild when asked about City's and PSG's spending power.

"It's not about who has the eleven best or most spectacular players on the field, but who makes the best of what they have together. Who makes the best of their opportunities? That is not unfair, it is just the topicality. A squad has to work.

What do you make of Klopp's assessment? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

"It's not that much fun when you have 40 players and 22 of them are not in a good mood any weekend. With us, all players have a right to exist and are very satisfied. But bringing in players just doesn't make sense."
