Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sings wonderful tribute to John Lennon for Beatles star's 80th birthday

Jurgen Klopp has paid a wonderful tribute to John Lennon on what would have been The Beatles star's 80th birthday.

The Liverpool manager was filmed from his Melwood office signing incredibly famous and popular songs co-written by Lennon and performed by both the group and the man himself.

The German boss begins by singing the chorus to All You Need Is Love before humming the famous "duh, duh, duh, da, duh" tune.

He then moves on to the chorus of Imagine before finishing off with the main verse in Yellow Submarine.

After Klopp finishes with his short renditions of the three songs, he delivers a message of thanks to Lennon.

In the clip, posted to Visit Liverpool's Twitter page, he said: "... and so on, and so on.

"That's what I'm thinking of and that's what it means to me.

"Some of the best songs, ever.

"If you were still here, we would have even more of those. Thank you very much."

John Lennon, who was shot dead aged 40 in New York in 1980, has continued to have an enduring influence on popular culture long after his murder.

Following a chance encounter with his future bandmate Paul McCartney at a church fete in 1957, he went on to change the course of musical history with a body of work that has stood the test of time.

And, after helping to propel The Beatles to international stardom and securing their place as one of the world's biggest ever bands, Lennon continued to enjoy a varied career.

Following the band's breakup in 1970, he released his debut solo effort John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band in the same year, which included hits Mother and Working Class Hero.

Less than a year later came Imagine, whose title track has become inextricably linked to his legacy.
