Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Manchester City are world's best - but issues warning for Pep Guardiola

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Premier League title rivals Manchester City as “the best team in the world” - but insists Liverpool will fight to the end in their quest for glory.

The Reds boss believes all the talk about City potentially winning an historic Quadruple is justified considering their blistering form.

Pep Guardiola's side moved a point clear of Liverpool with victory over Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

Liverpool, who need City to stumble during the run-in, will regain top spot if they beat Southampton at St Mary's on Friday night.

Injury update as Liverpool warned to expect surprise at Southampton

“If you were watching from outside, you'd think it looks like City can win all four and I think the same,” Klopp said.

“City in the moment look like the best team in the world. That's how it is. Barcelona the other night struggled a little bit but still did the job. Juve look pretty impressive in Italy but you don't exactly know how it will be in the Champions League.

“With City, those are the three big Champions League favourites. And you think, okay, City looks a bit more stable than all of them.

“But that doesn't mean that they will win all their games. I can imagine that people think that but it doesn't make it more likely.

“How many people watch all 90 minutes of City games? They won 2-0 against Fulham, we won 2-1 against Fulham because we made a mistake that we usually don't make.”

With so much focus on City, the prospect of Liverpool themselves completing a Premier League and Champions League double has gone under the radar somewhat.

The staggering amount Liverpool paid agents over the last two transfer windows revealed

That suits Klopp who has reiterated to his players that they can't concern themselves with City's results and just need to ensure they take care of their own business – starting at St Mary's on Friday.

“If you're with us you'd probably think that (Liverpool could win both), if you're not with us you probably don't think it,” Klopp added.

“I'm not interested what people think, especially those who aren't with us. I don't feel under-estimated or whatever. I don't care. I don't bet, I'm not interested in odds.

“I'm just interested in our football games and we cannot do more than win our games. We will try to win them with all we have.

“We were really happy after Sunday. But we knew pretty quick after that Southampton was the next challenge, then Porto, then Chelsea, then probably Porto again.

“There is a lot to come and the only thing I can say is that we try everything to be really ready for that fight.”

Klopp took great heart from Liverpool's dramatic win over Spurs - both on and off the pitch.

Liverpool's successful summer transfer trend - and who they could target next

"What I loved in the last match really, I think it was not only in my mind, the difference was so big in how the crowd reacted after the equaliser," he said.

"That was really massive. We have spoken a lot about the crowd at Anfield, that it gets a bit anxious when we have been 1-0 up in the past and the opponent has a big chance and its goes (groan): 'Now it starts again.'

"But here it was 1-1 with Tottenham who were having a good second half and I really felt the power of Anfield. That was absolutely brilliant."
