Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's 'landlord' Brendan Rodgers gives brilliant response to rent joke

The Premier League title race could not be more serious on the field as Liverpool battle Manchester City, but off the pitch, Jurgen Klopp in particular still has a great sense of humour.

That was evident earlier this week when he joked about withholding rent from Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers in return for a title favour, with Klopp currently living in the former Liverpool manager's house in Formby.

Rodgers left Liverpool in 2015 and Klopp would soon move into his house when he left for Celtic, with the two naturally having a relatively close relationship away from football.

A reporter joked to Klopp that he may want to withhold rent to inspire Leicester to help Liverpool out when they face Man City on May 6, with the German agreeing with the idea with his tongue firmly in his cheek.

Now Klopp's 'landlord' has since responded to the comments ahead of the weekend's games and it's fair to say this is a brilliant reaction.

“I don’t think it’s a secret (that I’m his landlord),” Rodgers told the Leicester Mercury . “It has been well-documented.

“I saw (what Klopp said). He is a funny guy. He has been a very, very good tenant.

"I don’t need to keep an eye on him. He always pays up on time. He’s very good.”

For now, Liverpool are focused on what they can control ahead of this evening's contest at home to Huddersfield Town as the Reds look to move two points clear of City in the race for the Premier League trophy.
