Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reveals why Mohamed Salah's goal against Salzburg gave him extra joy

Jurgen Klopp admits Mohamed Salah’s recent struggles in front of goal made his strike against Red Bull Salzburg especially pleasing with the German lauding his movement for enabling himself to always be free.

The Reds boss penned a new contract at Anfield to 2024 on Friday.

With the news coming just days after a 2-0 win against Red Bull Salzburg to confirm their place as Champions League group winners and their place in the last 16. And a delighted Klopp took time to heap praise on Salah following a tough run of form.

“I was really happy with his goal, because of the missed situations before,” Klopp said. “We created them really well.

“Don’t see in stats for missed chances cause he scores all the time. He is in good shape. He is always free cause of his movement. An incredible goal for Mo.”

Klopp also explained the importance of retaining his support staff: Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, who also both extended their contracts at the club.

“It was clear for me. I had to ask them first they were happy about it,” Klopp revealed. “We enjoy the work together, the boys want to be part of the project as well. They are incredibly important to me.

“I have worked with Peter Krawietz probably 18 or 19 years. Pep Lijnders for four. One guy who develops everyday.

“We have really improved a lot. Bringing him into a new role refreshed the situation. An outstanding coach. Plenty of ideas. It was clear for me to [keep him]”
