Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp responds to Real Madrid bus damage

Jurgen Klopp branded the actions of those who smashed the window of the Real Madrid team bus as "unhelpful".

But the Liverpool boss was unwilling to elaborate on a club statement that criticised the actions of the vandals outside Anfield, pre-match.

As the Spanish side made their way to the game on Wednesday night, the window of their coach was broken, causing Liverpool to release a statement slamming the behaviour of those responsible.

After a goalless draw left the Reds out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, Klopp was asked about the pre-match incident.

The Reds boss, though, said he had nothing else to add after the club said they would work with Merseyside Police to identify the individuals responsible.

“I heard it after the game," Klopp said.

"This is a special week, tomorrow (Hillsborough anniversary) is a very special day for us.

"That these situations are not helpful everyone knows, nothing else from my side.

"Tomorrow we have a really important day together with our fans and that is what I am thinking about. I think the club said what we have to say about it."

After being made aware of the incident, Liverpool were quick to condemn the actions of those involved.

A club release read: “We condemn unequivocally the actions that led to Real Madrid’s team bus being damaged during its arrival to Anfield this evening.

"It is totally unacceptable and shameful behaviour of a few individuals."

Liverpool offered an apology to Real Madrid and said they are working with the relevant authorities to establish more details.

“We sincerely apologise to our visitors for any distress caused." Liverpool added.

"We will work together with Merseyside Police to establish the facts and identify those responsible.”
