Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reacts to PFA Team of the Year selection

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool could have had more players named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane all made the cut, but the likes of Mohamed Salah, Gini Wijnaldum and Alisson Becker missed out.

“It’s impressive and deserved as well,” Klopp said.

“For me, my team is the team of the season as well. From my point of view there could have been four, five, six or seven more players involved.

Jurgen Klopp outlines Liverpool's summer transfer stance and rules out signing of star name

“They all played an outstanding season, but the players in the Premier League make the decision.

“It is even more special when you are in the team of the season as a defender because it’s the players you played against and felt uncomfortable against.

“That’s cool. Deserved, but Mo would have deserved it again, he’s up there with the top scorers.

“Gini played an incredible season, and if they voted today then Hendo (Jordan Henderson) would probably be in. It’s the players' decision. We have to accept it. We are very happy for them.”

Klopp insists that Salah will be ready to face Huddersfield Town at Anfield on Friday night following his midweek trip to America.

The Egypt attacker was given permission to miss Wednesday's training session at Melwood after flying to America for the Time 100 Gala in New York on Tuesday night.

Salah was named as one of the world's most influential people by the US magazine and manager Jurgen Klopp sanctioned his request to attend the event.

Liverpool set for big Champions League draw boost after stellar season

“Travelling these days is no problem any more,” Klopp added.

“It would be more problem if his car broke and he had to walk from here!

“Mo is a very smart person and his role is very influential. He said a couple of really good things and inspired, hopefully, some people on one side to think about a few things, and on the other side he got other people aware of him.

“In the world at the moment, it is very important that you have people like Mo. It should not be his first job obviously, but it’s important that he has an opinion and that he makes his opinion public.

“I was completely fine, we always say football is not the most important thing in the world, but when you can prove it you have to be there.

Liverpool handed double fitness boost ahead of massive week as Mohamed Salah and Fabinho return

“He missed one session, today he is in training and everything is fine again.

“I saw a few pictures, and he looked brilliant in his Tuxedo. Wow. He met a lot of famous people. If he’d have asked me maybe I would have joined him!

"It was very interesting and now he’s back, it’s all fine.”
