Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reacts to Joris Gnagnon red card and gives update on Yasser Larouci

Jurgen Klopp believes Yasser Larouci was “lucky” not to suffer a more serious injury after the horror challenge that overshadowed Liverpool's return to Fenway Park.

The Reds are waiting to discover the extent of the damage to Larouci after a brutal foul that saw Sevilla substitute Joris Gnagnon dismissed 14 minutes from time in the 2-1 defeat in Boston on Sunday.

The 18-year-old left the stadium on crutches with his right leg in a brace, and is now unlikely to feature in the final game of the US tour against Sporting Lisbon in New York on Wednesday.

And Klopp chose to keep his counsel when discussing the sending off, the low point of a controversial match in which Sevilla's Ever Banega could also have been red-carded for elbowing Harry Wilson.

“(It’s) much too early in the season to create headlines with saying the things I think about the situation,” said Klopp.

“Let me say how the situation is with Yasser; it looks like he was lucky but, of course, how it always is with these things we have to wait a little bit.

“He couldn’t keep on playing, so that’s the first not-so-good sign but in the dressing room it was okay, similar how it looks to Harry.

“Harry got a knock on his jaw and a finger in his eye, so not too cool. He should be okay as well but couldn’t carry on as well. That’s the situation.”

Of the tackle on Larouci, Klopp added: “He hit him full throttle and, in that moment, (if it was) a little bit different position where he hit him then it’s done.

“He rolls... he is a sports boy so that was okay, nothing happened there.

“I don’t know 100%. It looks like he was lucky but I only spoke quickly to the doc and that’s what he said, but but we have to see.”
