Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp optimistic over Mo Salah contract but says deal ‘will take time’

Jurgen Klopp is optimistic that Liverpool and Mo Salah will come to an agreement over a new contract but says it is not the kind of deal that will be struck over a cup of tea one afternoon.

Salah’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning that come the end of the season he will be entering the final year of his contract.

The Egyptian has been linked with moves to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past, but in a recent TV interview in his homeland, the forward made it clear that he does not want to leave Merseyside, saying it would be up to the club to resolve the situation.

Salah’s stunning form at the start of this season has only strengthened his bargaining position and no doubt made Klopp even more desperate to keep his star man.

"You know what he is about," he said. "We’re talking and extending the contract for a player like Mo is not one where you meet for a cup of tea and find an agreement in the afternoon.

"Mo is fine, I’m fine. What we all want is clear. Things like this take time.

"I think what we all want is clear things. It needs time, that is it."
