Jurgen Klopp has addressed accusations of being a bad loser by explaining why he can't let a poor mood linger when facing his Liverpool squad.
The Reds boss raised eyebrows with a frosty interview on Sky Sports immediately after the Reds' disappointing 4-0 reverse at Manchester City on Thursday.
Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane, who was at the Etihad working for Sky as a pundit, jumped to the defence of Klopp.
The Liverpool manager later admitted he wasn't in a good mood until he arrived at Melwood the next morning to begin preparing for Sunday's Premier League clash at home to Aston Villa.
And asked if he reacted in the same manner to every defeat, Klopp said: "Am I always like this? I don't know. I've had so many setbacks that I've needed for sure sometimes more than a night (to get over it), but not much longer.
"I decided long ago things I cannot change, I'm not bothered (about). I cannot change the result from Thursday, I can only use it for the next game. That's what I try.
"But you cannot stop feeling, and a defeat feels really, really average. That needs time.
"Sometimes human beings give themselves too much time suffering about something that didn't work out. I'm not one for self-pity.
"I'm very self-critical but not many times have had self-pity, because as long as I'm healthy I can be influential on my situation and on our situation in this case."
Klopp added: "The players' mood depends on me a little bit. If I come in and shout at them like crazy then we can suffer longer, I would say.
"If you focus on the facts, you can see it's done, the boss is obviously 100% not happy but we work already on the solutions, so let's carry on."
