Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp names the Tottenham player who could have huge say in the title race

An improved second half performance was not enough to see Tottenham Hotspur beat Premier League chasing Liverpool.

Lucas Moura equalised for the Lilywhites and the visitors to Anfield took a greater foothold in the game.

Spurs had their chances to take the lead too with Moussa Sissoko the man who had the best chance of them all.

The former Newcastle midfielder attacked with Son Heung-min in tow - both drove towards Allison's goal but the former wanted to pass the ball on. Virgil van Dijk did not allow that and cut off a potential pass to the South Korean international.

Sissoko continued on and was forced into the shot and put it hopelessly over the bar. Tottenham should have been in the lead.

Many will point to Hugo Lloris' error for the winning goal, but Jurgen Klopp does not believe his side would have came back had the Frenchman been more clinical.

The Liverpool boss said of the second half: "I was not surprised that we conceded a goal because in the second half we were not as good. Spurs changed from a five to a four. Harry dropped a little bit more and Son came on and it didn’t make things easy. They scored a super goal when they were quicker in mind than we were.

"They had the two big counter attacks if they scored in that second one then I doubt we would have won the game. Sissoko should score or hit the target probably."

A Spurs win would have left Liverpool a point behind Manchester City - who have a game in hand - and left the Reds with plenty of work to do with just six matches remaining in the Premier League and a busy schedule to contend with.

Klopp also highlighted the performance of one of his own players who he introduced of the bench. Fabinho had started most Liverpool games since the turn of the year, and he certainly made his presence felt when he entered the pitch.

The German boss said: "Fabinho only had to play 15 minutes against a tired side but he was brilliant. If you bring on a sub they have to make an impact and that’s why you bring them on."
