Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes surprise West Ham admission amid European Super League plans

Jurgen Klopp has said that he likes the fact that West Ham could qualify for Champions League football next season.

The Liverpool manager admits that he thinks the fact that David Moyes' Hammers could be playing Champions League football next season is good for football and the competitiveness of the game, with West Ham currently in fourth position.

But Klopp says he hopes Liverpool will still be in the Champions League next season as they look to try and overtake West Ham in the race for the top four.

His comments come in the wake of Liverpool and five other English Premier League clubs being announced as founding members of a new proposed European Super League, which has attracted plenty of criticism from fans and pundits alike.

But Klopp has voiced his disapproval at the plans and admitted that he and his players were not consulted about it, adding that in his opinion, there is nothing wrong with the Champions League as things stand.

"My opinion didn't change," he told Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.

"Obviously I first heard about it yesterday as we were preparing for a difficult game against Leeds United and then so far, we have got some information, not a lot, more or less what you can read.

"It is a tough one. People are not happy with that, I can understand that, but there's not a lot I can say about it to be honest.

"We were not involved in any processes, not me, not the players, we didn't know about it, that is the case.

"We will have to wait to see how it will develop.

"I am 53 years old and since I was a player, the Champions League was there and my aim was always to be there, I have obviously no issues with the Champions League.

"I like the competitive element of football, I like the fact that West Ham might play Champions League next year, no problem, I don't want them to to be honest, because we want to, but I like that they have the chance.

"Liverpool Football Club is much more than some decisions. The most important part of football club are the supporters and the team and we have to make sure that nothing gets between that.

"I heard that fans put banners at Anfield, but I don't understand that, we haven't done anything. We didn't win all the games, but we go with everything and we want to qualify for the Champions League next season and we have to stick together."
