Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the striker's previous spell at Manchester United has put him off signing free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Ibrahimovic has finished his spell at the LA Galaxy in the MLS and recently announced he would be returning to Europe.
The Swedish international, 38, left United in March 2018 to move to the States after 18 months at Old Trafford.
He scored 53 goals with 15 assists in just 58 appearances in the US. At United, he was on target 29 times in 53 appearances.
Speaking about Ibrahimovic, Klopp told Sportbladet : "If he had not played for Manchester United before, then we might have considered him."
"No, but I'm not even sure he wanted to play here. We're a pretty intense team," Klopp laughed.
"With that said, I couldn't have had more respect for Zlatan. I love his whole career, love his efforts, love his confidence.
"While it may not always be right, it is entertaining anyway. He's a fantastic character and I really hope he doesn't stop playing football. The world will miss him too much."
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had told the striker to give him a call if he’s serious about returning to Old Trafford but a move remains unlikely.
“If he was 28 not 38 next month, there’a big difference,” the United boss said.
“Zlatan had a great time here, he’s still doing well, it’s unfortunate he got his injury here. Who knows, he knows my number, he looked at my house [to rent]. We can speak a native language, if he’s serious I’ll always speak to Zlatan.”
On Wednesday evening, the Swedish striker said goodbye to the United States with this message:
