Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has his say on Man City attempting to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Jurgen Klopp has made his feelings Manchester City's potential deal for Cristiano Ronaldo very clear.

The Portugal star is looking to leave Juventus and has conveyed that message to the Italian club.

City have been offered the 36-year-old and negotiations are underway regarding a sensational return to the Premier League.

Such a transfer would come as a surprise given how the English champions have conducted their business over the past decade.

It is rare for them to sign players of Ronaldo's age and Klopp has made it known that signing the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is not a long-term move.

He said: "I watch that like a supporter, I have no knowledge about it. But it's not about me to judge that. If other clubs can do things for this, it's not a business for the future.

"It's for now if it happens and that's how some clubs work. That's fine."

He also added: "I don't think PSG brought in Messi for his commercial value, but instead as he has a lot to give on football pitch. Same with Ronaldo if he goes to City.

"But I've never been asked to make a commercial signing."

Ronaldo's representatives reportedly have a verbal agreement with City, although they would rather not pay the fee, around £25m, that Juventus are seeking.

Pep Guardiola's side have been chasing a striker for much of the summer and had pinpointed Harry Kane as their main target.

Tottenham dug their heels in however and the striker has now confirmed he will stay in north London.

Ronaldo has emerged as a shock target, but his association with Manchester United has been highlighted.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner won the Champions League at Old Trafford in 2008 and previously claimed he would never head to the blue half of Manchester.

He said: "You think the money is going to change my mind at 30-years-old? I don't think so, I don't think this going to be a problem.

"If you speak about the money I could go to Qatar, they would probably have more money than Manchester City."

Ronaldo's former team-mate Wayne Rooney admits he doesn't foresee the move happening, even though super agent Jorge Mendes is doing his utmost in negotiations.

“I think Cristiano has got a very good legacy at Manchester United and I know how proud he is as a player and a person," he told talkSPORT .

"I can’t see [him joining City], but it’s football so you never know. There have been a few that have done it but no one at Cristiano’s level. Obviously Peter Schmeichel and Andy Cole, but I just can’t see that as an option for him really."
