Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been relatively inactive in transfer window for good reason

Jurgen Klopp has been relatively inactive in this summer's transfer window because the only players who could improve his Liverpool squad are at Real Madrid and Barcelona.

That's the opinion of former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, who says the Reds' strength in depth means they don't need to bring in new players.

Liverpool have signed just one youth player this summer, Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle, who set them back just £1.3million rising to £4.4million.

The Reds have been linked to a handful of big names, including Kylian Mbappe, but are yet to make a formal bid for a player capable of slotting straight into the first team.

Explaining why the Liverpool boss has been reluctant to splash the cash, Murphy told Bwin: "Klopp hasn't been busy this transfer window as the only players that can improve his team already play for the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"There's already a lot of depth in the Liverpool squad and it's hard to improve a team that wins the Champions League and finish the season on 97 points.

"Liverpool had a few long-term injuries last season, with [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain and [Joe] Gomez missing a large chuck of the season.

"They will be like new signings this season and will be playing in the first team. It's not the end of the world if Klopp isn't too active in the transfer window."
