Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp handed another fitness boost ahead of Manchester United clash

Joel Matip has declared himself fit for Liverpool's blockbusting showdown at Manchester United on Sunday.

Matip was absent from the Champions League win over RB Salzburg and the Premier League triumph against Leicester City after suffering a knock.

Joe Gomez deputised in Europe alongside Virgil van Dijk, while Dejan Lovren stepped in for the visit of the Foxes.

But Matip returned to full training at Melwood this week to hand Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp a fitness boost.

“I’m back in training and hopefully I will stay fit,” he said to liverpoolfc.com.

“I’m back in training and I feel good. Of course, if I’m needed, I will be there.

“Injuries (happen) to a player. Now I’m back, I hope I stay fit and I can focus on the positives.”

Matip's availability is another injury positive for Liverpool, who are seeking to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League table and earn a record-equalling 18th successive top-flight victory when they journey to Old Trafford.

Alisson Becker is available for consideration after more than two months out with a calf problem, while Mohamed Salah has recovered from the twisted ankle that forced him off against Leicester almost a fortnight ago.
