Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives timeframe for Joe Gomez return and reveals Adam Lallana injury

Joe Gomez remains “one or two weeks” away from a Liverpool return as Jurgen Klopp vowed to continue taking no risks with the defender.

And Adam Lallana is also set to miss out on Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg at home to Porto.

Gomez hasn't featured since suffering a fractured leg when tackled by Ben Mee at Burnley on December 5 .

The centre-back travelled with the Liverpool squad for Friday's Premier League win at Southampton and warmed up on the pitch before the match.

Liverpool face an in-form Porto on incredible winning streak

But with Joel Matip having forged a partnership at centre-back with Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren again available, Klopp has no intention of rushing back Gomez.

“We wanted to have Joe around, not because he is now 100% ready but it's just nice to have him around,” said the Reds boss.

“Joe needs more sessions. He's not long enough in training.

“If we not struggling players-wise then we shouldn't think about Joe for the next one or two weeks.

“Now he needs proper training and stuff like that, but it was good to have him around.”

Lallana missed the visit to former club Southampton with a minor muscle injury.

And while he is expected to again be absent, Klopp had a more encouraging update on the fitness of several other players.

“Adam is only a little thing. It just kept him out for the weekend and maybe for tomorrow," he said.

Eden Hazard, Sadio Mane and how Real Madrid's transfer decision shows how far Liverpool have come

“All the rest should be okay. We had little problems after the game, back problems, Gini Wijnaldum had a back problem, Joel (Matip), Virgil from the fall on the ground, but they all should be okay hopefully.”

With Andy Robertson suspended, James Milner is expected to deputise at left-back although Alberto Moreno is another option.
