Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict on Unai Emery being sacked by Arsenal

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he was surprised to see Unai Emery sacked by Arsenal today (Friday).

The Gunners parted company with the Spaniard after a run of seven games without a win, with the 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League last night (Thursday) proving to be the former Sevilla manager's final game in charge.

He leaves with Arsenal eighth in the Premier League, 19 points behind the league leaders Liverpool.

And the Reds boss has been speaking about Arsenal's decision to part company with Emery at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

Klopp said: "I was surprised when I saw the news. That's how the football world is.

"I have no clue what happened there but obviously the board wasn't happy with the performances and made a decision. That's our life (as manager) when you sign a contract.

“I wish him all the best, he is an outstanding manager.

"He will be fine, I am sure he had big ambitions but it didn’t work out.”

Emery's time at Arsenal lasted just 18 months, with the Gunners missing out on Champions League football again after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, and losing out to Chelsea in the Europa League final.
