Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains help his players need and makes Anfield call

Jurgen Klopp has called on Liverpool supporters to help his “very smart” team as they prepare for an Anfield triple-header.

The Reds face the first of three successive home games when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit in the Premier League on Sunday.

They then welcome Sheffield United on Thursday before the FA Cup third round blockbuster against neighbours Everton three days later.

Six of Liverpool's last seven games have been on the road, including the Carabao Cup quarter-final when a team packed with youngsters lost 5-0 at Aston Villa.

And Klopp believes the intense nature of the Reds' schedule means they will require the boost provided by the Anfield atmosphere.

“Now we play three games in a row at home, one in the cup,” said the Reds boss.

“And I can tell already that we need massive help from the crowd, massive.

“Because the period is so intense and we need to use each source we can use for these games.

“Hopefully our people are rested enough to be at their absolute best because that's exactly what we need.”

Liverpool returned from their successful FIFA Club World Cup campaign in Qatar by winning 4-0 at second-placed Leicester City on Boxing Day to extend their unbeaten league club record to 35 games.

And Klopp added: “I am blessed. I have a very smart team. I don't mention it constantly, it's not that I have to tell them to stay focused. They are.

“We have so many good characters in the team, and they tell each other how to do it. There's nobody who is flying (with feet not on the ground), not a little bit.

“Even two years ago, we were like this, but we didn't have the same points tally.

“A few things have come together – the quality and the experience we have made together. That we have worked together a long time helps, obviously. A lot of things are settled. That's all good.”
