Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains Fabinho's celebration after thunderbolt strike against Man City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained the reason behind Fabinho's goal celebration against Manchester City on Sunday.

The defensive midfielder put the Reds in front after six minutes with a thunderous strike from 25 yards out.

Fabinho wheeled away in celebration with his team-mates and proceeded to point at his wrist as he approached the fans gathered in the Main Stand at Anfield.

After the game, which ended in a 3-1 win for Liverpool , in a pitchside interview live on Sky Sports, Klopp revealed why Fabinho was signalling to an imaginary watch on his wrist.

The German boss told Jamie Carragher and Geoff Shreeves that the other players explained the celebration to him in the dressing room, and that it was the Brazil international's way of saying it was about time he scored a goal.

Klopp said: "They [the players] told me he pointed at his watch to celebrate. It was time for him to score and he did, it was a really good goal."

Blood Red: Jurgen Klopp asked if Liverpool can through the season unbeaten

It was the second time the 26-year-old has added his name to the scoresheet for the Reds since his move from Monaco in 2018.

With his first coming in a 4-0 Boxing Day rout of Newcastle United 11 months ago.

Liverpool's 3-1 win over title rivals Man City has saw them climb nine points clear of Pep Guardiola's side who sit in fourth position heading into the international break.
