Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp comments on Chelsea's big-money transfer deals

Jurgen Klopp says Chelsea have a positive outlook on the future as the Blues continue to spend money during the coronavirus pandemic.

Many clubs have been hesitant to invest too much money in their squads this summer due to the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on football.

Yet the Blues have spent heavily, paying money for Ben Chilwell and Timo Werner whilst also lining up a deal for Kai Havertz.

That's alongside Hakim Ziyech's arrival, whose transfer was agreed in February.

Chelsea have also signed Malang Sarr on a free-transfer and are also set to bring in Thiago Silva after his departure from PSG.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been a little more frugal.

The Premier League champions have signed just one player, defender Kostas Tsimikas for £11.75million.

They have been heavily linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Yet, when asked about Thiago by German broadcaster Servus TV, Klopp was coy, pointing to uncertainties in the transfer market.

The Liverpool boss referenced Chelsea as a side who appear to be more optimistic over the financial future than other clubs are.

He said: “There are a lot of interesting players out there but if someone is interesting for us I can’t say right now.

“Due to COVID-19 you have to think five times about what you can and what you can’t do.

“We always have to pay attention to the financial aspect. We don’t know how much money will come in.

“Nobody knows but it seems like some other teams have a more positive outlook on the future… if you look at Chelsea for example [laughs].

“But I am very happy with my team right now. If something transfer related will happen we have to see.”
