Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp broke down in tears after seeing NHS footage

Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on the NHS and their response to the coronavirus pandemic after revealing how he was reduced to tears by a video of their efforts.

The Reds boss said he was moved after seeing footage of You'll Never Walk Alone being sang on the intensive care unit of a hospital earlier this week.

Klopp, like the rest of Liverpool's coaching staff and players, is isolating at home as the ongoing suspension of football continues in light of the worldwide COVID-19 spread.

On Thursday evening, people across the country were encouraged to clap for the NHS on their doorsteps at 8pm and Klopp saluted Britain's health workers for how they have mobilised in response to the rise of the virus over the last few weeks.

And Klopp said he broke down in tears when seeing Liverpool's famous terrace anthem sung on an ICU this week.

"My English is not good enough to say. It’s extraordinary, it’s great," Klopp told the club's official website.

"I think yesterday I was sent a video of people in the hospital just outside the intensive care area and when they started singing You’ll Never Walk Alone I started crying immediately.

"It’s unbelievable. But it shows everything, these people not only work but they have such a good spirit. They are used to helping other people, we need to get used to it because usually we have our own problems and stuff.

"But it’s their job, they do it day in and day out.

"They bring themselves, if you want, in danger because they help ill, sick and seriously handicapped people, so I couldn’t admire them more and appreciate it more, I really couldn’t."
