Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp accused of lacking respect by Club World Cup opponent

Jurgen Klopp has been accused of lacking respect by the Monterrey coach he clashed with at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Liverpool boss and Antonio Mohamed were both shown yellow cards after their touchline confrontation during the semi-final in Qatar.

The Argentine coach had demanded that Joe Gomez be given a second caution for handball, and Klopp was furious at the attempt to get his defender sent off.

Mohamed said: “He was not respectful. I felt he tried to trash me.

"He kept asking for yellow cards because he said we were fouling Salah. Then when I asked for a player to be sent off, he stuck out his tongue and made fun of me.

"I laughed at first, but then it bothered me a little, I lost my cool.

"I insulted him in Spanish and rose to his bait. My background came out and I lost all elegance and composure.”

Liverpool beat the Mexican side through an injury-time winner from Roberto Firmino before seeing off Flamengo in the final.

Immediately after the semi-final last month, Mohamed claimed Gomez escaped being sent off because he plays for a more famous side .

Gomez was penalised for a handball but was not shown a second yellow having already been booked earlier.

Mohamed said: "For me, there was a red card, especially the first foul and the second.

"So I talked to the referee. Maybe a Liverpool shirt has more weight, therefore the Liverpool player wasn't sent off."

Meanwhile, Liverpool forward Mo Salah complained afterwards about a lack of protection from the officials.

He criticised Chilean referee Roberto Tobar's handling of the game and the "aggressive" tactics of Monterrey, who committed 13 fouls to Liverpool's nine and had two players booked.

Salah said: "They were very aggressive against us and all of us were complaining about our legs and they were really aggressive.

"I think the referee doesn't protect us too much."

He added: "I think in the end we showed our quality and we won in the last minute. I think we deserved it."
