Jürgen Klopp has received some positive injury news for a change with James Milner and Jordon Ibe resuming full training before Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City.

The new Liverpool manager has faced a growing injury list since his arrival at Anfield – losing four first-team players to knee problems – but should have the two midfielders available for Saturday’s game at the Etihad Stadium after they participated in full training on Monday.

Milner, captain for Klopp’s opening six games in the absence of Jordan Henderson, missed the home defeat by Crystal Palace before the international break with a hamstring strain. Ibe suffered bruising to a knee in that game, prompting his withdrawal from the England Under-21 game against Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Both will be monitored by Liverpool’s medical staff this week for any bad reaction to returning to training but are in contention to face City. It will be Milner’s first game against his former club since leaving on a free transfer in the summer, if selected.

Klopp has lost Mamadou Sakho, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez and Daniel Sturridge to knee problems since replacing Brendan Rodgers as manager.

Sturridge has returned to light training but the City game may come too soon for the England international.
