Liverpool block Dejan Lovren transfer after AS Roma try to unsettle player to drive down price

Liverpool have called off talks with AS Roma over a proposed move for Dejan Lovren.

Reds chiefs have grown frustrated over perceived attempts by the Italian club to unsettle their No.6 in a bid to drive his price down.

Roma had initially indicated that would be willing to put together a package worth €20million to sign Lovren this summer.

However, intermediaries have since attempted to negotiate a loan deal involving a fee that would be unacceptable to Liverpool.

As such, the Merseyside club have decided to end discussions with Roma, who are believed to have moved on to alternative targets.

Lovren's international teammate Domagoj Vida and Marcos Rojo of Manchester United are thought to lead the Serie A side's new wishlist.

And that could result in the 30-year-old remaining at Anfield this summer, despite his clear desire to depart.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all ahead of him in the pecking order, Lovren is likely to be Jurgen Klopp's fourth choice centre-half this term.
