Liverpool beat Man Utd, Leeds and Man City to Newcastle player during summer transfer window

It has been reported that Leeds United were one of a number of Premier League clubs who entered the race to sign former Newcastle United youth team forward and highly-rated prodigy Bobby Clarke.

Clarke decided to leave the Toon club in August, after seven years at their academy, when Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp came calling.

The 16-year-old opted for a fresh challenge in order to pursue his career with a move to Merseyside, where he will be primarily involved with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's under-18s side.

Clarke is the son of former Newcastle player and Football League manager Lee Clarke, and it has been revealed that he was pursued by plenty of Premier League club's prior to his arrival at Anfield last month.

The Athletic claim that the Whites, as well as Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham all, made an effort to secure the signature of the winger.

Clarke has made a big impression during his short time on Merseyside so far as he was invited to train with the remaining senior players during the latest international break, where it is reported that he has turned both Klopp and assistant manager Pep Lijnders into 'big admirers'.

And the new signing didn't waste time settling in at his new club as he managed to find the net against Middlesbrough on debut for Bridge-Wilkinson's side.

Despite missing out on the signature of Clarke, Leeds have made plenty of strong additions to their academy in recent years with the signings of Sean McGurk, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt.

Mark Jackson's under-23s side won the Premier League two last season, a triumph that was aided by an outstanding nine-match winning streak.
