Liverpool basks in sunshine ahead of hottest day of the year

Liverpool basked in glorious sunshine today - ahead of the hottest day of the year tomorrow.

People flocked outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather with many people heading to the region's beaches and sunny spots.

With the summer holidays in full swing plenty of families took the opportunity to head out around the city.

Our photographers spotted lots of people enjoying themselves in the sunshine, with many deciding to treat themselves to an ice cream to cool down.

And tomorrow there's even more sunshine - with forecasters from the Met Office predicting it'll be the hottest day of the year so far.

Temperatures are due to soar to highs of 30°C degrees, with wall to wall sunshine predicted.

The forecast for tomorrow said: "A cloudy start, but cloud gradually melting away to leave a dry and sunny day.

"Feeling hot in the strong sunshine. Maximum temperature 30°C."

The good weather is expected to stay with us for the majority of the week, but will cool down to the low twenties by Friday.

There's also a chance of a thunderstorm as the humid conditions take hold across Merseyside
