Liverpool bar MOJO tells visitors to 'ask for Angela' to get help discreetly

A Liverpool bar has a discreet measure in place to help visitors who may find themselves in an uncomfortable situation.

MOJO, on Back Berry Street, took to Facebook and Instagram to share the news that it is taking part in the #AskForAngela campaign, which aims to prevent and reduce sexual violence and vulnerability.

The bar is working with police and other hospitality venues during the campaign.

The #AskForAngela campaign gives customers a discreet code word they can use to tell staff at venues if they feel unsafe or threatened. Staff can then help customers leave or call a taxi safely.

In a post on Facebook, MOJO said: “We're working alongside the police and other hospitality venues across the UK to help prevent and reduce sexual violence and vulnerability with the #AskforAngela campaign.

“If you're feeling harassed or uncomfortable simply go to the bar and ask for "Angela".

“Our trained staff will know that you need out of a situation and will call you a taxi or help you out discreetly - without fuss.

“Spread the word.”

The move has proven a hit with MOJO’s fans, who praised it as “brilliant”.

Among the comments beneath the bar’s post on Instagram, one user said: “This is brilliant”.

Another wrote: “Really appreciate this guys. There’s been many occasions in town when other places didn’t click on I needed help”.

MOJO recently reopened to the public for outdoor drinking and dining after months of closure due to lockdown restrictions.

To celebrate, it revamped a space at the back of the bar allowing the venue to serve visitors outdoors and within the new Government guidelines.

The space features 12 benches that can each seat up to six people and there will be covered spaces to cope with the typically unpredictable British weather.
