Liverpool have withdrawn from The Super League as the planned tournament continues to fall apart.

“Liverpool Football Club can confirm that our involvement in proposed plans to form a European Super League has been discontinued,” read a statement released on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday evening, Manchester City became the first Premier League club to back out of the breakaway competition, with reports emerging that Chelsea and Arsenal would also withdraw.

Liverpool players released simultaneous statements expressing their opposition to The Super League earlier on Tuesday night after Jordan Henderson was understood to have led all Premier League captains in a meeting.
