Liverpool await Alisson injury update ahead of Super Cup with goalkeeper set to sign one-year deal

Liverpool are set to hand Andy Lonergan a one-year contract as they await the results of scans on Alisson Becker's calf injury.

Alisson suffered the injury in the first half of Liverpool's 4-1 opening day victory over Norwich and was replaced by new signing Adrian, who made his debut.

The Brazilian pulled up after taking a routine goal kick, with reports that the calf problem will keep him out for 4-8 weeks, but the ECHO understands that Liverpool are still waiting to discover the full extent of the injury, with the Reds expected to have an update on Monday.

Alisson's injury has left the Reds with just new boy Adrian as the club's only senior goalkeeper.

Elsewhere, Kamil Grabara is on a season-long loan at Championship side Huddersfield Town, under-18s goalkeeper  Vitezslav Jaros is recovering  from an elbow problem and  Caiomhin Kelleher has only just resumed training after a hand injury  .

Former Preston and Leeds goalkeeper Lonergan remains based at Melwood and the Reds will offer him a one-year deal.

Lonergan is expected to be in Jurgen Klopp's squad for Wednesday UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea in Istanbul.

The 35-year-old impressed when taken on Liverpool's tour of the USA in July to help in training and offers a wealth of experience having played over 400 games in his career.
