Liverpool avoid Arsenal move with season ticket decision

Season ticket prices at Liverpool will remain at the same level for a seventh year in a row, the club has confirmed.

Despite two challenging financial years due to the impact of the pandemic, and with last season having been played almost entirely behind closed doors, the Reds have committed to freezing the price of season tickets for the 2022/23 campaign.

The most expensive season ticket for adults will remain at £869 in the Main Stand with the cheapest at £685 in the Kop. For over-65s, they range from £652 to £514, and for young adults (17 to 21) from £434.50 to £342.50. A junior (16 or under) season ticket is set at £165.

Liverpool have been able to manage the financial impact of the pandemic better than some of their rivals, with the two Covid-affected seasons seeing the club lose a combined £50.8m, which is just 6.5 per cent of the total losses for the so-called 'big six'. And with fans and capacity Anfield crowds back this season, a return to profitability is expected for the next financial period, with the freezing of season ticket prices a welcome move.

Phil Dutton, vice-president of ticketing and hospitality at Liverpool, said: "Firstly, we’d like to thank supporters for their patience and for their cooperation this season as we welcomed them back to Anfield. We know the last few years have been a challenging time for everyone and today we can confirm that our season ticket prices will be frozen again for next season.

"This is now the seventh season in a row that we’ve frozen these prices, and it’s something we’re very proud of. Season ticket holders will be sent an email on Tuesday, March 30 with further details of the renewal process."

While the Reds have kept their season ticket prices for 2022/23 static, some clubs have raised them, with Arsenal bringing about a backlash from some supporters for their decision to raise their season ticket prices at the Emirates Stadium for next season by four per cent, a move that brought an end to their own seven-year run of frozen prices.

Arsenal's statement upon the announcement of the rise read: "We recognise that no one welcomes price increases, and this decision has not been taken lightly. Ultimately in the face of continued rising costs, we need to continue to drive growth in all our revenue streams – including matchday – as part of our aim to return our finances to a break-even position in the medium term."

The Reds' 2022/23 season ticket renewal period will open on Thursday, March 31 and end on Tuesday, May 24.
