Liverpool ask FIFA to look into concerns Bobby Adekanye was tapped up by Lazio

Liverpool have asked FIFA to look into concerns that youngster Bobby Adekanye was tapped up by Lazio.

The 20-year-old attacker officially joined the Serie A outfit this week following the end of his contract with the Reds.

Liverpool will bank just £240,000 in compensation – four years after signing the Netherlands youth international from Barcelona.

The ECHO reported back in December that Adekanye was in advanced talks with Lazio after rejecting Liverpool's offer of a new contract.

Lazio subsequently released a statement on their official website denying that they had been involved in any discussions about signing him.

Under FIFA rules, players under the age of 23 are not permitted to hold talks with rival clubs while they are still under contract.

Liverpool are concerned that Adekanye was approached by Lazio while he was still on their books and have asked FIFA to examine the circumstances surrounding the transfer.

Adekanye was unable to force his way into Jurgen Klopp 's plans following his arrival from Barcelona in the summer of 2015.

He showed flashes of brilliance for Neil Critchley's under-23s and scored some spectacular goals at youth level, but his progress was been hampered by injuries and a lack of consistency.
