Liverpool: Arne Slot issues fresh Alexander Isak injury timeline in latest update amid double boost

Update: Alexander Isak - (Getty Images)

Arne Slot has revealed the latest on Alexander Isak as the Liverpool striker recovers from injury.

Isak has been absent for Liverpool since he was injured while opening the scoring in the 2-1 win at Tottenham before Christmas after a challenge from Micky van de Ven.

After being helped off the pitch by the club’s medical staff, it was later revealed that the Swedish international had suffered an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula and required surgery.

An exact timeframe is yet to be revealed on Isak’s recovery and he will miss this weekend’s meeting against former club Newcastle.

Speaking ahead of the game, Slot - who has confirmed a double boost with Ibrahima Konate and Curtis Jones available for selection - has said the striker will be out for a “while” as he’s still not returned to grass.

“He's not even on the pitch yet. I think it's called a walker, he's just out of his walker, so that tells you that he's not on the pitch and not expecting him on the pitch today or tomorrow in terms of his recovery work,” Slot said.

“That's going to take a while before he's back, as we knew.”

At the time of the injury, Slot labelled the Van de Ven’s challenge as “reckless”.

He said: "It was a reckless challenge. I've said a lot about the tackle of Xavi Simons [who was sent off], which for me was completely unintentional. I don't think you will ever get an injury out of a tackle like that.

"But the tackle of [Micky] van de Ven, if you make a tackle like that 10 times, 10 times there is a chance the player gets a serious injury."
