Liverpool are 'still open' for £25m transfer deal nobody is talking about

Benjamin Pavard has yet to find a club willing to play him at his favourite centre-back position as he looks to leave Bayern Munich this summer.

That’s according to German publication Kicker, which is reporting that no club has approached Bayern so far and, as things stand, Pavard will report back for pre-season training in the coming weeks.

Pavard has one year left on his current deal with the Bundesliga champions, but it is claimed that he informed Bayern earlier this summer that he wanted to explore a new challenge in England, Italy or Spain. Liverpool have been tentatively mentioned as a potential destination in some accounts.

Multiple reports have claimed that the former Lille and Stuttgart defender has wanted to leave Bayern for a number of months, even before the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as Julian Nagelsmann's replacement.

In his Caught Offside column last month, German journalist Christian Falk dismissed claims that the French international had refused to join Liverpool from Bayern.

He said: "He still has his ‘Tuchel list’; he’s working at Bayern Munich at the moment, in a similar manner to how managers in the Premier League go about their business.

"Normally the sporting director has a greater say, but Tuchel is actually in the driver’s seat. Now that he has Kim, he’s still got an eye on Harry Kane and Kyle Walker.

"Walker is the next topic. There’s still a bit of a fight with Manchester City in terms of whether he signs a new contract or joins Bayern. It’s a similar situation to the one facing Bayern with Hernandez and Kim – a little bit like Walker and Benjamin Pavard.

"It’s not true that Pavard has said ‘no’ to Liverpool; everything is open still. Now they have to see where Pavard is going.

"Walker is a solution; the player has said ‘yes’ and can imagine coming to the Bundesliga. That said, he would sign a good contract at City, so it's still between City and Bayern Munich. Bayern know they will lose Pavard."

Various reports have estimated an asking price of around £25-30m for Pavard from Bayern.

So far this summer, Liverpool have concentrated on rebuilding their midfield, with deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai completed for a combined £95m.

But it is also believed the Reds are exploring potential centre-back options, especially in light of Jurgen Klopp's switch to a back-three system at the end of last season.
